One World Surgery (OWS) is a nonprofit organization with a mission to ignite the spirit of service and transform lives by providing access to high-quality surgical care globally. Our three cornerstone programs include operating global surgery centers, leading medical missions, and offering education and training support to local medical professionals.   

One World Surgery funds and operates the Holy Family Surgery (HFSC) in Honduras. The surgery center is located on the 2,000 acre ranch of the children's home NuestrosPequeñosHermanos (NPH). The ranch is approximately 1 hour northeast of Tegucigalpa. The Holy Family Surgery Center is a permanent facility with a Honduran team that provides orthopedic consults and surgeries year-round. The center also hosts weeklong medical mission trips during which teams of volunteers (generally from the U.S.) perform consults and surgeries in additional specialties. HFSC hosts an average of 2 medical mission teams each month, with up to 60 volunteers per team.  

The Moscati Center, a conference center located on the property of NPH, provides accommodations for the medical mission teams. It also hosts our education and training programming. The conference center includes 18 guest rooms, industrial and guest kitchens, a conference room, and laundry facilities 

The Hospitality Manager is the leader of OWS’s hospitality team in Honduras and a liaison between NPH, the surgery center, and the Moscati Center. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring an impactful experience for all visitors by creating a warm, inviting, and safe atmosphere in the Moscati CenterThe Hospitality Manager is also responsible for overseeing all conference center facilities and operations, hourly staff, and full-time volunteers. 

Schedule: Typical work hours are 7:30 am – 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.  Some evening and weekend hours, including staying overnight at the Moscati Centerwill be required during medical missions or other events (approximately 8 days/month). 

Key Responsibilities 

Hospitality 

  • Create a warm and welcoming environment in the Moscati Center, ensuring a positive and impactful experience for all visitors 
  • Conduct tours of the Moscati Center, and orient visitors and volunteers to amenities and policies  
  • Respond to questions and requests from visitorsand remind visitors of Moscati Center and OWS policies 
  • Update volunteers and visitors regarding the schedule and any other important information via verbal and written announcements 
  • Visit the surgery center daily to check in with volunteers and OWS surgery center staff 
  • Engage with visitors throughout their stay to enhance their experience and deepen their relationship to OWS 
  • Oversee meal preparation and facility cleaning 
  • Coordinate Moscati Center repairs and routine maintenance with OWS staff and outside companies, including pest control, landscaping, equipment repairs, and facility deep cleanings 
  • Provide event coordination services for meetings and events (catering, room set-up and break down, equipment set-up) 
  • As needed, support Hospitality Coordinator and Hospitality Assistant by leading medical mission evening programming, greeting volunteers at the airport, overseeing volunteer departure, conducting tours of the NPH property, and leading orientations 

 Leadership 

  • Serve as a key, front-facing representative of the Moscati Center and One World Surgery 
  • Act as a liaison between the Moscati Center and HFSC, regularly working from the surgery center, participating in weekly team lead meetingsand organizing quarterly all-team events to build strong cross-department relationships 
  • Act as a liaison between OWS and NPH, building strong relationships with all departments, participating in NPH events and meetingsand presenting to departments about reserving the Moscati Center for events 
  • Develop initiatives to continuously improve Moscati Center operation and the visitor experience  
  • Recruit, schedule, and supervise Moscati Center staff, ensuring 24-hour hospitality coverage whenever visitors are present 
  • Oversee and support Hospitality Coordinator’s management of gift store and Hospitality Assistant’s management of in-kind donations  
  • Cross-trained in all hospitality team roles to be able to provide coverage, as needed 
  • Facilitate communication and promote team building among the hospitality staff by leading regular team meetings 
  • Support Moscati Center team in problem solving and resolving challenges that may arise during visits 
  • Conduct mid-year and end of year evaluations for all Moscati Center staff, and organize professional development opportunities to support employee growth 

Safety 

  • Ensure the safety of visitors and volunteers at all times, including following safety standards for food preparation, serving, and storage 
  • Contact the NPH security team for information and recommendations regarding any possible safety concerns for visitors 
  • Escalate safety concerns and incidents to U.S. leadership, as needed 
  • Orient Moscati Center team and HFSC leaders to OWS safety policies and procedures 
  • Respond to and manage any incidents involving volunteers, following established safety policies and procedures and exercising excellent judgment 

 Finances, Purchasing, Inventory Management 

  • Develop and manage annual conference center budget to include labor, maintenance, supplies, food/beverage, and capital spending  
  • Coordinate purchasing activities for general supplies, food/beverage, and capital purchases for Moscati Center including quotes, check requests, shopping, and liquidation 
  • Maintain accurate inventory records of all food, supplies, and donations  
  • Regularly evaluate procedures to reduce costs and optimize use of resources 
  • Manage Moscati Center petty cash   
  • Coordinate payment of Moscati Center employees  

Required Qualities, Skills, and Experience  

  • Passionate about the missions of One World Surgery and NPH 
  • Ability to occasionally stay overnight in the Moscati Center during medical missions 
  • Full professional fluency in English and Spanish (oral and written) 
  • Previous experiencing interacting with North Americans or native English speakers (in a medical mission setting preferred)Friendly, welcoming, charismatic, positive, high-energy personality  
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills  
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and to form strong relationships with co-workers and visitors  
  • Ability to manage stressful situations well, be flexible, and creatively solve problems  
  • Excellent organizationaltime management, and financial management skills 
  • Comfortable communicating by email, WhatsApp, and video call and using Microsoft Word and Excel (including creating basic formulas) 

Preferred Qualities, Skills, and Experience  

  • Previous management experience 
  • Previous budget management and basic accounting experience  
  • University degree in relevant field (i.e. hospitality, tourism, English) 
  • Ability to drive and access to a vehicle
